Brief
biography
I was born 2nd April 1948 in a house called
"White
Gables"
just
outside Highcliffe-on-Sea, Hants. I spent my early childhood in Wales
and the
USA before we (parents plus younger brother) settled in Lyndhurst, in
the New
Forest. During this time I went to schools in Tenby (St Stephen's),
Washington DC (Lafayette), Romsey (Stroud Preparatory School) and
Sherborne. My father was in the army and boarding schools were the only
means of continuity in schooling.
Having read engineering at Peterhouse,
Cambridge, I worked for GEC in Coventry and then Newton Aycliffe. I
left to do
an MBA at Durham University Business School and then joined the NHS.
Later I qualified as an accountant (FCCA). I am now retired and live in
Washington, Tyne and Wear.
I am married to Pat, who works as a part-time director for Hiltrain,
a training company. I have a 27 year old
daughter, Kate, from my first
marriage. She lives in Essex where she practices as a vet. My
principal interests are folk music, biking, skiing, opera
and Indian food (cooking and eating it!). |
